NaNo Diary - Day 15: Crash and burn

Okay, so thanks to my illness dragging on for five whole days I'm now over 10,000 words behind where I want to be. The good news is, I'm still on target for 50,000 so I'm sticking with the NaNo target this year. If I hit that target (somehow, miraculously) within the next five days, I'll go for a sprint and try for 75,000, but I doubt that'll happen since I still occasionally suffer from uncontrollable coughing fits which really do not help progress my writing. -.-

With that in mind, let's talk about Edward Stone. He's the hero in the  "past" section, fighting a subtle battle against Lady Eleanor as she tries to summon an army of elves to march across the Earth.

The idea behind Edward is that his past is so dark even we aren't permitted to find out about it until it suits him. He's a charismatic, swashbuckling sharpshooter but this is England in peacetime, at least for a while. He can't just kill someone and get away with it, no matter how rich he is. He is Eleanor's target primarily because he is a soldier at heart; if she controlled him, he would be a valuable addition to his army once it swept across the land.

Edward finds out about Eleanor's true identity, however, and thwarts her plan by leaving town. When we next meet him, seven years have passed. In those seven years, he has been learning many things, but he still doesn't have a way to stop Eleanor, much less her new man.

With the death of her husband, Eleanor mourned for a year before calling upon Faustus Isaacson, a ridiculous, posturing blast from Edward's past. He knows something about the dark deeds Edward partook in to amass his fortune, indeed he may even be part of them. What does he know? Will we ever find out? Of course, but not right now.

Because I'm heading off now; I have work tomorrow, and I need to be awake for that.

Adieu!
